<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Objective: This article aims to introduce critical discourse analysis in LIS research and to determine its place among other approaches of discourse analysis. It also aims to analyze the applications of this method in LIS research problems. Critiques to these methods are equally mentioned and analyzed. Methodology: The paper is analytical. In analytical articles, a theory or a method is developed, strengthened by new evidence, explained in other ways, or is reflected on or criticized. As such, the present article intends to develop critical discourse analysis approach in the field of Information Science and provide new research areas and in the meantime, provide new explanations for this approach. Findings: Critical discourse analysis is an approach that recognizes all discursive and non-discursive practices. Its goal is a static analysis of texts such as posters, news, ads, etc. by means of Halliday's functional grammar to discover naturalized ideologies of texts and to provide their social explanation. Whereas LIS is a field that is placed in the gangway of text production and consumption, so it is posed with several discursive orders. Then, it can be a suitable field to discover specific discourse systems and to explain normalized ideologies.]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Objective: The article presents practical hints for critical and analytical study of the theoretical and research background in the design phase of research. Methodology: Elaborating on the findings of a longitude exploratory research, started in October 2004, this study presents some practical hints to enable researchers to spot the “knowledge gap” in their research projects. Information literacy research is used as an example to explain the hints. Findings: To spot and define knowledge gap in this research, developing two maps are proposed: knowledge map and research map. Knowledge map is developed based on the analytical studies of the underpinning subject (concepts, theories, models). It provides the researcher with subject and methodological aspects of the topic under study. This is then used to analytically review the literature from subject and methodological viewpoints. By overlaying these two maps the “knowledge gap” in the study can be captured. Implications: The study offers an alternative approach for analytical studies and developing the literature in research projects. It can be of value to all researchers, research managers and journal editors, who are keen to design, produce or publish generative research. ]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Objective: One of the accelerating factors in science cycle is knowledge translation which refers to exchange, synthesis and application of research results due to complex interrelationships between researchers and knowledge users. The current research was conducted to compose self-evaluation tools to assess knowledge translation activities of these researchers. Methodology: This research is of qualitative phenomenological nature, using semi-designed interview. In this research 21 faculty members of different branches of social sciences in universities administrated by the "Ministry of Science, Research and Technology" were interviewed. These researchers have conducted the majority of researches in their respective fields. Validity of the results was confirmed via validation techniques by members and colleague investigation. Findings: After encoding, classification and data analysis, an instrument was designed according to five main points, namely research problem, research results, knowledge transfer, knowledge sharing and knowledge application. In composing the tools options, in order to show the concordance of each option to the appropriate situation in knowledge translation; a five-point scale was used. This research outlines the requisite principles and intermediate links between "knowledge production" and "knowledge utilization" with which one can identify the gaps between "applications of knowledge-derived research" and "knowledge production".]]></dcterms:abstract>

The population of this study consists of PhD students of ‘Information and Knowledge Studies’ and ‘Educational Administration’ courses, among which 117 students were selected using relational random sampling. Findings: The results of this research and comparing the mean score of students of both courses revealed that students of ‘Information and Knowledge Studies’ in contrast with students of ‘educational administrations’ was significantly greater in communication, ethical behavior, team-working and career management. The mean score of the two groups was significantly different in two other components of professional development, i.e. research management and civic accountability, and the mean obtained for students of ‘Information and Knowledge Studies’ in these two components is significantly lower than that of ‘educational administrations’ students. The mean scores for two groups in entrepreneurship & creativity, self-efficiency, teaching, interpreting and transferring knowledge were not significantly different. ]]></dcterms:abstract>

<dcterms:abstract><![CDATA[Objective: It appears that bilingualism affects bilingual users’ information behavior in information environments. The study aims to investigate the role of linguistic obstacles to Turkmen-Persian bilinguals’ information behavior. Method: In this qualitative research, data was gathered by observing and interviewing about 50 Turkmen students. Data was codified and the main themes of extracted data were recorded. Findings: The majority of participants were better at writing and reading than speaking in Persian. The reason is that their language learning had been formal in which the dominant medium is written one, not oral one. This obstacle cause them to have problems in stating their information needs and searching for information at initial phases and not to be able to determine the proper information search strategies with the help of monolingual informed people and specialists. Originality/value: In addition to explaining lingual obstacles to information behavior, this exploratory study set forth conducting similar studies in other bilingual and multilingual speakers.]]></dcterms:abstract>

In fact, employees try to form their own image in the other people’s minds. This paper explains engagement of voluntary and altruistic behaviors and disengagement of anti-citizenship behaviors in the form of consequences of applying impression management tactics. Methodology: The present study is an applied research in terms of aim, and is a descriptive-survey research in terms of data collection. It is also a correlational research in terms of the relationship between research variables and is distinctly based on structural equation modeling. The population of the study consists of managers and staff of libraries of University of Tehran.
