The Relationship Between Information Technology and Organizational Agility with the Mediation of Knowledge Management

Abstract

Objective: The primary objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between information technology (IT) and organizational agility, emphasizing the mediating role of knowledge management among librarians working in the libraries of Payame Noor University. In the context of rapid technological advancements and the dynamic nature of academic services, understanding how IT and knowledge management jointly contribute to organizational agility is of vital importance for higher education institutions.
Method: The current research is applied in terms of purpose and conducted using a survey method. The statistical population includes 112 librarians from Payame Noor University libraries, and the sample size was determined to be 86 using the Cochran formula. The data collection tools consisted of three standardized questionnaires: Organizational Agility, Information Technology Usage and Knowledge Management.
Results: Findings revealed a positive and significant relationship between information technology and organizational agility, indicating that effective utilization of IT resources and systems enhances librarians’ ability to respond swiftly to organizational and environmental changes. Moreover, knowledge management-encompassing knowledge creation, sharing, and application-was found to have a significant direct effect on organizational agility. The mediation analysis demonstrated that the inclusion of knowledge management increased the predictive power of information technology on organizational agility by 9 percent, confirming its mediating role.
Conclusions: The results suggest that while IT independently influences organizational agility, integrating it with robust knowledge management practices substantially strengthens this effect. Consequently, university library managers are encouraged to invest in both technological infrastructure and systematic knowledge management initiatives to foster greater organizational agility and adaptability in the face of ongoing digital transformation and evolving user demands.
