Abstract
Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of knowledge management on product commercialization, with an emphasis on the mediating role of information technology in knowledge-based firms located in Fars Province Science and Technology Park.
Method: This study is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-survey in terms of method, employing a quantitative approach. The statistical population consisted of managers of 400 knowledge-based firms located in Fars Province Science and Technology Park, from among whom 196 participants were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through standardized questionnaires, including the knowledge management questionnaire based on the model developed by Gold et al. (2001), the information technology questionnaire based on Mao et al. (2016), and the product commercialization questionnaire adapted from Cho and Lee (2013). Data analysis was conducted using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) and SmartPLS software.
Results: The results indicated that knowledge management and its dimensions, including knowledge creation, knowledge retention, knowledge transfer, and knowledge application, have a positive and significant effect on product commercialization. Furthermore, information technology had a positive and significant effect on product commercialization and played a significant mediating role in the relationship between knowledge management and product commercialization.
Conclusions: The findings highlight the importance of the synergy between knowledge management and information technology in enhancing the commercialization capability of knowledge-based firms. Accordingly, the development of information technology infrastructures and the strengthening of knowledge management processes can facilitate more effective utilization of organizational knowledge and improve the success of product commercialization.
