Abstract

Internal evaluation is an approach based on the validation model and the first step toward the application of the validation model. The academic system enters this stage for self-evaluation and highlighting of the points of weakness and strength. In the present evaluation study, four groups of information from the Department of Library and Information Science of the University of Isfahan were addressed, including: 1) The faculty members; 2) The students;
3) The graduats; and 4) The staff. The instruments were different questionnaires for data collection. Total and sample counts were employed for the analysis, and the SPSS software was used for statistical procedures. Data analysis was based on nine criteria: Objectives and goals; organizational make up; faculty; students; teaching/learning processes; courses and instruction; graduates; research & instruction facilities; and research projects. The results of the analysis of the data showed that the qualitication degrees are low. The faculty and teaching/learning processes rank highest with a degree of 3.21; objectives and goals lowest with 1.9. This is due to the lack of defined goals and objectives in the Department. In conclusion, the study has some implications for the improvement of instruction and research programs as well as the presentation of technical services.
