Abstract

Technology and industry need information and libraries are of great
importance in preparing information.
The developed countries believe in such an importance - and their
rich and rather Standardized libraries prove such a belief.
But the developing countries - while in the greatest need for information and in formation centers - do not look at the libraries as
they deserve. Poor libraries and bad library statistics show lack of importance given to them.
The article - based on the "UNESCO Statistical yearbook 1996 ¬describes the present state of the libraries in both developed and developing Countries
