Abstract

In many of the positivistic models, language is defined as a phenomenon which plays the role of reality representation, whereas the integration of languge with the process of reference interviews and responding the users’ needs, as well as all other humanistic studies and investigations, my justify the languge not merely as a meaning pattern but as the basis of meaning. Hermeneutic approach to the reference process is, in fact, the act of decoding the signs and symbols of the question statements in order to explore the latent meanings and, consequently, the users’ needs. The interaction of librarian-user in a context of communicative dialogue is created through language.
