Method: A historical and at the same time comparative method was used. In the historical method the field of librarianship and information science are chronicled. In the comparative method, it has been compared to other fields
Findings: Librarianship and information science, given a new conceptual makeover, could lead to the formation of at least seven fields. These fields include reference, information technology, information management and productivity, archives, and manuscripts.
