Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to examine the impact of the Internet resources and tools on information-seeking behavior among faculty members in Tehran university for their research activities. Findings indicate using e-mail, search engines, Web browsers, FTP Mailing list and online databases are the most important Internet tools and services in the three faculty branches. The access rate of the e-sources from office was higher than the access rate from home and library. Findings also show that using of Internet was the most important information source beside the print resources in order to access scientific information. The humanities faculty believe that the impact of Internet on quality and quantity of researches are limited, but the science and engineering faculty believe that Internet is effective in the quality and quantity of researches. There was a significant difference between the impact of Internet on research process among three branches. There was no significant difference between the strategies for finding e-sources for research in these branches and also they use the references of printed sources in order to find relevant e-sources
