Investigation the Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Library Anxiety among Students of Bushehr University of Medical Sciences and Persian Gulf University

Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this research was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and library anxiety among students of Bushehr University of Medical Sciences and Persian Gulf University.
Methodology: In this descriptive study which is of correlation type, a total of 700 students of Bushehr University of Medical Sciences and the Persian Gulf University were selected through Stratified random sampling. Data was collected by using normalized Questionnaire of Siberia Shrink's Emotional Intelligence and Localized Questionnaire of Bostick library anxiety and analyzed using SPSS.
Findings: there was a significant inverse correlation between emotional intelligence and library anxiety of students (r = -0.41). This result was in Bushehr University of Medical Sciences (r = -0.39) and in Persian Gulf University (r = -0.43). Also except of the component of self-motivation there was a significant inverse relationship between the components of emotional intelligence and library anxiety. Regarding the research findings showing significant relationship between emotional intelligence and library anxiety, it seems that considering Emotional intelligence in order to reduce the anxiety level of students using the library, which Results in better productivity at library, could be effective. So, it is proposed that authorities, library managers and librarians –in cooperation with each other- promote communication skills and emotional intelligence skills by holding specialized courses.
