Assessing the Relationship between Perceived Organizational Support and organizational Indifference in Librarians Case Study: Central Libraries of Universities Affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in Tehran

Abstract

Purpose: This research was conducted to assess the relationship between perceived organizational support and organizational indifference among librarians working at central libraries of universities affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in the city of Tehran

Methodology: The method used in this research was analytical survey and the statistical population of the study comprised all librarians holding a diploma or a higher degree working in different sections of central library’s affiliated to the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology in the city of Tehran in 1392 (2012-2013). 219 questionnaires were distributed among these librarians, 177 of which were collected and analyzed. The required data was collected using the perceived organizational support questionnaire ((Eisenberger et al, 1986) and the organizational indifference questionnaire (Salariyeh, 2011).

Findings: The results showed that among the librarians forming the statistical population, the rate of perceived organizational support is below the average and so is the rate of organizational indifference. Hence, there is a meaningful and reverse relationship between perceived organizational support and occurrence of organizational indifference among librarians of the statistical population.
