The Relationship between Social Capital and Organizational Learning in Tabriz Academic Libraries

Abstract

Aim: This study aimed “to survey the relationship between social capital and organizational learning in Tabriz Academic libraries”.
Methodology: This descriptive- analytic study was conducted through a survey. The statistical population of this research is Tabriz govermental University libraries,. The first questionnaire was designed based on the Senge model for organizational learning and the second questionnaire was designed based on the model of the Nahapiet and Goshal for measuring social capital.
Finding: The findings indicate that the status of social capital of Tabriz university libraries is moderate and among the components of this component, the group relationships have the lowest mean and identity component of the most average. The findings also show that the level of organizational learning in academic libraries is also moderate. Personal mastery has the highest mean and team learning component has the lowest average. Also the findings show a significant difference between the organizational learning of librarians of academic libraries based on social capital levels. Correlation analysis showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between the components of social capital and organizational learning. Also, the path analysis indicated that the dimensions of social capital were respectively the importance of organizational learning; the cognitive dimension with the total effect of 0/439 was the dimension relation with the total effect of 0/405 and the structural dimension with a total effect of 0/304. In total, the components of social capital explained 50/8% of the organizational learning changes of librarians in academic libraries.
