Abstract

In this study the citing situation of accredited Persian journals of Tehran University in 2001, which at least one of their issues have been published till the end of data gathering in this research, has been examined. The research methods used in the present stuey are survey and content Analysis. The results indicate that in total, 90 percent of the journals either have their own citing instructions or recommend following known citation styles. 39 percent of the citing instructions of the journals are based on “out of the text citation styles”, that 33 percent of which belong to NLM and Vancouver Styles. Also, 61 percent of the citing instructions of the journals are based on “in the text citation styles”, all of which belong to APA and Harvard styles. In terms of articles following their journal’s citing instruction, the findings indicated satisfactory situation. It is also shown that the citation systems of articles in two journals, having no citing instruction, are based on “in the text citation styles”.
