Poetry and oratory were two outstanding arts of lahalia Arabs in the
Arabian Peninsula. There was a great change in the art of oratory with the appearance of Islam because the prophet made use of oratory to spread
the religion. Imam Ali bin Abu Talib's mastery in oratory and rhetoric was unique. In the first half of the first Islamic century, Oratory reached its
peak of perfection.
The sayings of Amirol-Mo'meninhas always been noted by scholars of
language and academics; most literary, scientific, commendatory and historical book have used his saying. In the fourth century AD, considered
as the age of golden Islamic culture, a great scholar, Seyyed Razi gathered a selection of sayings, addresses, letters, official letters, bequests and
aphorisms in a book and called it "Nahjolbalagha.
As Seyyed Razi had not intended to produce a book in Hadith,
juri_prudence or theology, he did not mention the sources and documents -except in 17 cases- for Amirol-Mo'menin's sayings. This has cast doubts
on the authenticity of these saying, while searching sources available before the publication of Nahjolbakagha one can find a large part of
