have
brought
about
huge
transformation in the field of information technology, data,

picture and sound, both at the national and international levels. These developments are, both in quality as well as in quantity. altogether different from the information infrastructure of the early and middle twentienth century which included telephone, telegraph, radio, television, cinema and books, etc. In the field of information technology, the means of communication are far too extensive, intricate and speedier. In view of its huge data, and enormous storage and processing capacity computer has come to
assume an important position in this new system, and through it
the possibility of exchange of information, and gaining access to libraries, universities, research centres has increased manifold. The software used to process this sort of information are known as information and softwares. Yet another thing which has relvolutionized the information technology both in the sphere of
electronic communination as well as the data banks, is the
CD-ROM. The present article seeks to highlight the potentials of this new technology and introduces some of the data banks available on the CD-ROM.
