Cataloging in publication (CIP) is a method by which the catalog card related to a book is supplied in the boo/c thus facilitating the process of cataloging, and making the book more quikly available to the reader. Unifying the cataloging, CIP also facilitates the retrieval of books, especially in the electronic environment. The present article, by considering two cases of CIP, concerning two almost similar books, and indicating the many differences between the two CIPs, illustrates the many disadvantages of a non-standard CIP, instead of the advantages generally considered for CIP. Some suggestions have been presented on the issue at the end of the article.
